Speaking at the ‘March for the Murdered Millions’ rally, Greens MP and Animal Welfare spokesperson Andrea Dawkins called on the government to ban the sport.
“The greyhound racing industry is a cruelty-ridden industry,” she said.
President of Greyhound Owners Trainers and Breeders Association of Tasmania Graeme Barber said calls to shut down the industry based on interstate information “ignored the good work that had been undertaken in state”.
A recent investigation by the former Director of Racing and Chief Veterinarian found no evidence of live baiting in this state.

“These facts are often conveniently ignored by the industry’s critics.”
In the North of the state, The Greyhound Adoption Program Tasmania hosted a public walk to encourage greyhound adoption.
Coordinator Susan Gittus said it was “important for people to know about the work done by the program”.
