TASMANIAN sprinter Jack Hale and his national teammates finished fifth in the 4x100 metre relay final at the IAAF world under-20 championships in Poland on Sunday morning (AEST).

The team featuring Hale, Queenslander Trae Williams, Victorian Cameron Searle and New South Welshmen Nicholas Andrews automatically qualified second fastest for the final in Bydgoszcz with a time of 39.67 seconds in heat three.
The boys clocked a season-best 39.57 in the finale, but is was not quick enough to outpace the gold-winning Americans (38.93) on day five.
Japan was second in 39.01 followed by Germany and Jamaica (39.13).
In other news, Hobart-based javelin thrower Hamish Peacock gained a podium spot at the London Anniversary Games. The Rio-bound 25-year-old picked up a bronze medal at the Diamond League meet with a 81.63m hurl.
Czech Jakub Vadlejch won the event with a 85.72m throw.
