A young lady had pulled up on the side of the road to take a call on her mobile phone.

Well done that person.

In contrast, on Thursday, July 7, I was travelling to Launceston from Longford when a black BMW SUV came up behind me in a 100km/h zone, I was on 100km/h, so she was over the limit.

She was on her mobile phone all the way from the end of Illawarra Road until we reached the Breadalbane roundabout.

In all that time, I was occasionally putting my left hand up to my ear to remind her about her using her phone.

When we entered the Southern Outlet, she immediately went into the right-hand lane and as we passed a slower car she decided to give me a brake test.

This is only the second time this has happened to me in over 45 years of driving and unless I had a dash cam in the car would not have been able to prove the cause of any crash that resulted in her behaviour.

If the road safety people or Tasmania Police are interested, I have the registration number of the vehicle.

She joins Andrew Bolt from the media who have the guts to speak out than been silenced by threats.

This is Australia where freedom of speech is a must and not driven into oblivion.

MALCOLM Turnbull has shamefully disregarded Tasmania by not providing a ministry to any Tasmanian Liberals.

If this is Mr Turnbull’s commitment to Tasmania, it is a sad state of affairs.

The rejection of the three amigo’s and this government’s unfair agenda should have sent a strong message to the Liberals that the community expects better policies and more attention from this government, not less.

The fact that Mr Turnbull did not have any confidence in any Tasmanian Liberal senator is a major concern for all Tasmanians.

Tasmanians sent a very clear message to the Liberal Party and the Prime Minister on election day – I urge you Mr Turnbull to respect the will of the people.

Labor will fight for Tasmanian’s and expect the Turnbull government to deliver on all its election promises to Tasmania.

Mr Turnbull, work with us not against Tasmanians.

I FEEL for Andrew Nikolic and his family who worked exceptionally hard.

Andrew didn't receive my vote because I didn't see him as representing my values.

In contrast, Warwick Smith, who was in my view the best ever federal candidate for Bass, spoke in more depth about policies and issues at a local level.

Some readers will recall for example that he pursued and advocated a policy of twilight clauses on all legislation to facilitate programmed review of the actual impact of each piece of legislation against that which was intended.  

In 2016 after 50 years of elections, I really didn't feel up to any more of the self professed "competent economic managers".

I think most families place the security, health and education of their children first and for example would not hesitate to borrow in the event of need.

In my opinion Labor gave voice to that priority now whilst Liberal said: "when we can afford it".  

In 50 years I've simply tired of the promise that we have to get the economy right and then we'll look after the strugglers.
