Each Friday, an array of classes including knitting, embroidery, mosaics, technology and model boat making welcome community members at the Launceston Christian Centre.
Crafty Corner was established by Mary Rothwell with the support of the Outreach of Uniting Church.
Coordinator Hilary Parry said they have about 170 names on their list, and each week about 100 people attend.
“I’ve been involved for about 13 years since I returned from Hobart,” Ms Parry said.
“I’ve learnt a lot, I teach crocheting, I teach ribbon embroidery and I’ve learnt quilting,” she said.
The classes were as much a social outlet as they were a serious skill developing project.
Everyone is welcome no matter what - whatever religion, whatever race, they are always welcome.

“It is a nice outlet for people to come and meet new people as well as learn new skills,” Ms Parry said.
“I think it is the day and age where people feel isolated sometimes and of course we are teaching things that aren’t in fashion,” Ms Parry said.
Classes were run by people from the embroidery club and, over the years, Ms Parry said attendees have produced some extremely high quality and intricate work.
Community was a core focus of the group.
“We never knock back anyone, we never make them feel like their work is not good, everyone is welcome no matter what; whatever religion, whatever race, they are always welcome,” Ms Parry said.
Residents of George Town, Longford, Westbury and Perth make the weekly trip to dabble into one of the 15 to 16 classes offered each Friday.
Running on the same schedule as school terms, with new classes introduced after each break. A committee of nine work tirelessly each week to coordinate the event.
A $5 entry fee covers the Launceston Christian Centre rent costs and morning tea. Some classes may require specific materials which need to be purchased.
