The legend of Buddy Holly lives on as Encore Theatre Company shares his story on stage in Launceston.
Matthew Garwood takes on the lead role in ‘Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story’ from July 22.
Garwood said he was excited to be apart of the local production.
“We have such a vibrant arts community here and it’s so well supported,” he said.
“As soon as somebody sees this show and sees how fun and energetic it is, everybody is just going to love it.”
Director Belinda King said what made the production special was the story it told.
“It's a true story, it’s a story of the final two years of his life and it has that tragic end,” she said.
“But then you look at the body of music left behind by this clever young man and that music has been entertaining generations ever since.”
During a preview of the show on Sunday, Ms King said the team was “calm and confident” ahead of opening night.
The show will run from Friday July 22 to Saturday July 30 at the Princess Theatre.
