The Torns led 17-12 at quarter time and 37-33 at the main break before the Lady Braves rallied with a 22-17 third term to lead 55-54 at the last change. But the Torns responded with a 20-15 final term to seal the victory with Ally Wilson continuing her outstanding shooting form to top score with 25 points. Mikaela Ruef shot 19 and had 17 rebounds and Taylor Roberts scored 14 with eight rebounds.
“It was a really good contest and we looked fairly in control in the first half and were disciplined especially in the defensive end,” Tornadoes coach Reece Potter said.
“But Bendigo fought back really hard and made some good shots to stay in the game – it was a good challenge for our group but we found a way to stay focused and get over the line in the end and I’m pretty proud of their efforts - but we have some areas to improve on.
“It was definitely a team effort for us not only on the scoreboard but the defensive effort from every player was outstanding. At the offensive end we could have been a bit better but Ally Wilson stepped up with her shooting. Ali Partridge and Sami Phillips did a good job keeping the pressure on defensively off the bench and Tayla Roberts efforts against a WNBA big in Chante Black shutting her down and won that contest which was probably where the game was won.”
