Far From Folsom will recreate in some of Australia’s most famous prison sites the Man In Black’s legendary recorded performances at Folsom and San Quentin prisons in the late 1960s.
Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority marketing co-ordinator Kate McCarthy said heritage values and the event's benefit towards the community were strictly considered when agreeing to the show.
“We assessed it in the context that we needed to ensure that it would not negatively impact our heritage values or environment and of course we have particular risk management considerations due to our heritage environment,” she said.
“We could also see that it provided the potential for a nice economic boost to the region, particularly for accommodation providers and transport operators.
“It is a unique tour in that performances are all occurring in heritage prison sites, some of which are also World Heritage-listed.”
Ms McCarthy said that the site regularly partnered with Festival of Voices and 10 Days on the Island to host events.
The site also hosted the Port Arthur Tattoo in 2013 which attracted about 2000 people which is the anticipated number for the Far From Folsom show.
General admission tickets are on sale now for $79 through Ticketmaster.
