The St Helens Lions Club served hundreds of sausages at The Examiner’s community barbecue on July 7, raising $160 to go back into helping out the East Coast community.
Club member Tony Bradley said the community at St Helens were always supportive of the club’s fundraising efforts to help those less fortunate.
“We devote most of the funding that we get to firstly local people that need help, then the state and if necessary, overseas,” Mr Bradley said.
“Anything we get we’re grateful for and the businesses here are always supportive when it comes to donations, along with the people themselves.
“People donate without even thinking about it. This barbecue has been great and we’ve had a tonne of people come by to get a sausage and have a chat, which is really good to see.”
He said holding the barbecue outside the St Helens Newsagency on the town’s main street was a great way to get the community involved in what the club was doing.
The meat for the barbecue was provided by East Coast Village Providore and the bread was donated by Banjo's Bakery St Helens.
