Tasmania will play host to 15 men’s and women’s teams for the first time since the Bhutanese Soccer Federation Championship started in 2012.
Fifty volunteers and more than a year has been spent organising the tournament, which will be held at Invermay’s Churchill Park from Sunday to Wednesday, 10.30pm to 3pm.
Bhutanese Community of Tasmania North president Shiva Acharya said the event was a chance for Bhutanese people living in Australia to meet in one place.
“There’s lots of people coming from the mainland and it’s good for businesses in Launceston – most people have booked accommodation and rented a car,” he said.
Adelaide Dragon Sporting Club coach Max Dulal said: “It helps keep our culture up and gives our community the opportunity to visit every state.”
Entry to games is free with Bhutanese food for sale.
