The sod has officially been turned on their new site at Perth and the duo hope to be up and running by October.

The pair had planned to set up Adams Distillery at their site on Garfield Street in South Launceston, however their application was voted down by Launceston City Council in March.

Despite being disheartened at the time, Mr Saunders said it had worked out for the better.

“We couldn't have had a shop front or a cellar door setup in the CBD location, but we can do all of that and more here,” he said.

The new site is located on a large farm owned by local Berni Einoder who said the project had a lot of potential.

“I don’t like whisky myself but these guys have talked me into it,” Mr Einoder said.

“I have about a thousand acres, so there’s plenty of room.”

Northern Midlands mayor David Downie said there had been no objections to the application.

“There is growing demand for Tasmanian produced whisky and it's great to see investment in this sector,” he said.

Once the building is complete, Mr Pinkard said Adams Distillery single malt whisky would be released within two years.

“It needs to sit in the barrel for a minimum two years, so the earliest our first release will be is late 2018,” he said.
