Local quilters have presented their works in the The Not So Wilted Quilters – “Focus on Fabric” exhibition, which ran from May, and came to an end on Thursday. 

Exhibition curator Adrienne Smeeton said she tried to ensure each exhibition complimented one another, as she prepares for a photographic display by Low Head resident Tim Hughes. 

“You have to make sure one quilt isn’t dominating the other. We try and alternate them so we haven’t got textiles one after the other. 

“So it’s really interesting you have to take a lot of care and thinking how you’re going to display them in the gallery so it looks balanced and there’s a flow,” she said. 

Lighthouse Regional Arts secretary Lorraine Wootton said Mr Hughes’ exhibition captured a range of emotions.

“Tim’s only recently moved to Low Head, and he’s added quite a bit to the photography group and showing people different things they can do with their cameras and try and get them off the automatic mode,” she joked.

Ms Wootton said the photography Mr Hughes had put together would tell a story. 

She said a sub-group of photographers existed at Lighthouse Regional Arts. 

Lighthouse Regional Arts vice-president Pat Webb said she was impressed by the talents of local quilt makers. 

Ms Wootton said The Wilted Quilters met on the first Monday of each month in the George Town Yacht Club from 6pm onwards.

“I think that everyone that saw the current exhibition was quite impressed. Everyone that I’ve spoken to has been pleased with the display,” she said.

She said the exhibition is further supported by a quilt shop in George Town, which attracted quilt-lovers to the viewing. 

“Some of the bigger quilt shops have closed down in Launceston, so we have lots of people that come here just to come to the quilt shop.” 

Ms Wootton said the new exhibition would be called “Real and Unreal” and begins on Thursday, continuing until mid-August.
