Ms Burton said she had been a subscriber to The Examiner since since 1964, and is passionate about human interest stories.
She said she hoped The Examiner would cover more human interest stories, as she preferred these over stories concerning death and problems in the community.
Ms Burton said she was a keen reader of the regional papers, and hoped to see more stories about George Town in the future.
“George Town has a lot of friendly people, I really like it,” she said.
She said she emigrated in 1964 from Scotland with her husband, travelling to Sydney and eventually to settling in George Town.
