The program begins with Winterlight, a new event that will see the community join in a musical procession from City Park to Inveresk on Friday, July 1.

There, the festival kicks into life with a free concert featuring Launceston bands and musicians, plus highlights from some of the festival’s performers.

Festival of Voices partnered with The Examiner to find the song that will unite all voices at Winterlight.

Readers chose The Beatles Let It Be, which will be performed by Launceston troupe The Embers.

Winterlight is a free event, and the procession is asked to gather at City Park – with torches –  at 6pm for a 6.30pm walk to Inveresk.

The free concert will take place at Inveresk from 7 to 8.30pm.

As the weekend continues, Launceston’s St Ailbes Hall will be transformed into Voicebox: a hub for musical performances for the festival.

The program is wide and varied – from glitzy European cabaret singer Sven Ratzke to beatbox duo Jamie MacDowell and Tom Thumb to the diva-licious Miz Ima Starr.

The festival runs until July 17, and continues in Hobart, and features a unplugged concert on the East Coast.
