The council gave the go ahead at its Monday meeting on June 27, after unanimously agreeing to show gratitude for the significant efforts of people who went above and beyond the call of duty to protect people, pets, livestock and property.
Alderman Hugh McKenzie moved the motion, and said it was important to thank those involved publicly.
“I think that all the people in our emergency services go out of their way to make sure our city is as safe as it can be,” he said.
“I hope the Alderman see this as a fitting way to thank the people who put their lives on the line for our community.”
In his notice of motion, Alderman McKenzie stated that the workers and volunteers continually plan to have solutions to meet every conceivable disaster. A date for the reception is yet to be confirmed.
