Launceston storyteller BERT SPINKS is taking on the federal election. Spinks will host Bert Spinks Presents The Future at the City Baptist Church in Launceston, on Thursday, June 30, from 7pm. He’ll be joined by voters from the community for a “humorous but serious” conversation about the big vote on July 2. This is a free event.
It has been a long time coming but the BRITISH INDIA gig at Launceston’s Club 54 is finally here. The four-piece will play on Friday, July 1, from 8pm. They’ll be supported by Cuban Heel. Tickets are available through Oztix for $34.70. British India will continue their tour in Hobart the following night at the Republic Bar.
There is a whole lot of mess coming to town next week. To coincide with the school holidays, ULTRAGLOW is stopping in at Hotel New York in Launceston on Thursday, July 7. Typon Hapi and Nathan Thomson will headline the party, which is known as the country’s biggest paint party. Final release tickets are available through stickytickets.com.au for $42.50.
Looking ahead, Launceston’s PAPER SOULS are set to perform a set as a trio for a good cause. The stripped down group will perform at the Latrobe Flood Fundraiser on Saturday, July 9, at the Latrobe Memorial Hall, from noon. The fundraiser also includes auctions and raffles, food stalls, children’s entertainment, and more. It’s a good cause to get your groove on for. The full Paper Souls are also scheduled to play at The Gunners Arms in Launceston on July 22 with Grim Fawkner, for a special “upstairs” gig.
Speaking of The Gunners Arms, it appears to be back into the live music circuit, with a swag of bands set to play there over the coming months. One of the most raucous gigs is sure to be UNCLE GEEZER on their She’s All Toke tour. They’ll be supported by Melbourne bands Drain Life and Dead Root, with local support from Weeper, and Plague of Sickness. You can see ‘em on Friday, July 15, from 8.30pm. Entry is $10.
DREADNAUGHT has announced two Tassie shows on their Caught The Vultures Sleeping tour. See them at the Republic Bar in Hobart on August 26, and in Launceston at Club 54 on August 27.
