About 1300 runners tested themselves against the best in their age groups in fine but wet conditions underfoot.
The championships doubled as a selection event for the Tasmanian team to contest the national championships in Canberra in August.
By the time the gun was fired for the last of the events at the Tasmanian All School Cross Country on Tuesday nearly three and a half thousand school runners had participated across the two days of competition at Symmons Plains Raceway.
“Last week’s participation in the primary events at over 2200 was a stunning result for the event, for Athletics Tasmania as the organisers and for good healthy activity for Tasmanian school students,” AT President Mike Gunson said.
About 1300 entries were anticipated for the secondary age groups which Gunson said was just as encouraging.
Runners representing 54 schools entered across the twelve events in fine but cool conditions with some traditional wet and muddy conditions underfoot on course.
The secondary event included a team competition in each age group which is based on the first three runners from each school to finish. It also served as the principal selection competition for the Tasmanian team to take part in the under-14, under-16, under-18 and under-20 events at the Australian Cross Country Championships in Canberra in August.
Following the secondary cross country races, Athletics Tasmania selectors announced that the following athletes had been automatically selected in the provisional Tasmanian team to compete in the ACT.U-20 Female: Niamh Crocker (Scotch Oakburn) and Hannah Cummins (St Patrick’s College).
Madison Brazendale, of Riverside High School runs strongly in the under-14 girls' race.
