The album was made using Ableton software; a step away from the traditional turntable and drum machine set-up favoured by Shadow.
This is probably his most diverse album yet with Davis typically taking risks with the assembly of his tunes and their embedded sounds.
Davis has never been into producing predictable, braindead head-bobbing beats that have corrupted his genre so anything he puts out is met enthusiastically, even if it strays from comfortable territory.
The familiarity is still there, however, with the catchy synth and piano sounds and songs that invoke the golden age of hip hop.
Mountains is a good addition Davis’ expansive catalogue and worth a listen.
