The man, who was arrested by police following a tense multi-hour stand-off, has refused to cooperate and charges are yet to be laid, Inspector Michael Johnston said.
It is alleged the man was armed with a knife and was on drugs when he allegedly lit fire to his Vermont Road home and climbed onto the roof.
He then requested police shoot him dead, Inspector Johnston said.
The situation was eventually defused on Monday night.
Vermont Road has been reopened.
Police also arrested a man and a woman for their alleged roles in the siege.
They are expected to face court at a later date.
Police are also investigating the use of a drone in Vermont Rd during the incident, which caused a nuisance and hindered police’s negotiations with the 27-year-old man.
