His five contested touches indicated more of an outside role.

The health issues that forced Kade Kolodjashnij and Jesse Lonergan out of the Suns’ side ensured a smaller than usual Tasmanian representative for the Suns.

But Devonport’s Grant Birchall more than made up for the lack of locals with a dominant effort for the Hawks.

Birchall had 28 touches at 89.3 disposal efficiency, outstanding considering the greasy conditions and the fact the Hawks only went at around 70 per cent as team.

Twenty one of his possessions were by foot, he took 12 marks, had four inside and four rebound 50s, as well as nine score involvements.

On Saturday, Clarence’s Jack Riewoldt put in a dominant display as Richmond defeated Brisbane.

Riewoldt had the better of Daniel Merrett to kick 4.3 from 21 touches and 10 marks, with four contested.

He also had a brilliant 15 score involvements.

It wasn’t as good of a day for Lauderdale’s Mitch Robinson, with the Lions hard-nut out of the game with concussion in the second term.

Josh Green, from Clarence, kicked 1.0 from 14 touches and took two marks in his return to the Brisbane team, and laid seven tackles for good measure.

Andrew Phillips was another to return this weekend, and the Lauderdale ruckman won 16 hit-outs in Carlton’s loss to Greater Western Sydney on Saturday.

Burnie’s Maverick Weller was outstanding on Saturday night as St Kilda upset Geelong.

Half-forward Weller kicked two key goals in the third term, laid six tackles, took seven marks, collected 19 possessions and had six score involvements. 

Glenorchy’s Jimmy Webster had nine touches and took three marks for the Saints.

Launceston’s Jake Kolodjashnij had 16 touches, took eight marks and laid three tackles for the Cats.

Devonport’s Ben Brown kicked 2.1  from 12 touches and six marks for North Melbourne against Adelaide.

 Burnie’s Lachie Weller had eight touches, laid six tackles and kicked 0.2 for Fremantle against Collingwood.

Dodges Ferry’s Jeremy Howe had 20 touches and took four marks in defence for the Magpies in the win over the Dockers.
