“They’re becoming an increasing problem and they don’t just live up in the mountain anymore. We’ve got a colony right here in ‘Westbury who graze in the cemetery every night”.
Then build proper fences and drive slower. Humans don’t get shot when their population expands, why should animals?

HEALTH SYSTEM
DAILY now, and has been continuing for quite a while, we read of the plight etc, of the Tasmanian Health System, in particular our Launceston General Hospital. Health Minister Michael Ferguson states he and the Health Services CEO had made addressing issues at the LGH a number one priority.
All I can say is just as well. He wasn’t skipper of “Titanic” as it sank, he would have said, no doubt - don’t worry ladies and gentlemen it’s only a leak. When our state elections come up, Mr Ferguson will have to face the voters, blaming others won’t help him.

DETENTION
I ENDORSE Jeff McKinnon’s article (The Examiner, June 8) regarding mandatory detention. It is not illegal for people who have fled from persecution and war to seek asylum here. To our shame, instead of welcoming these people, Australia has created conditions where asylum seekers are traumatised, dehumanised, tortured and abused.
A former Department of Immigration official explained: "The policy of deterrence is all about constructing an environment that’s worse than the thing people are fleeing from, so you have to make the situation for people in detention somehow worse than Syria under ISIS."
Because Australia is responsible for the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual harm that has been inflicted on these people, we are morally bound to remove them from the off-shore detention hell holes and bring them here to restore their health, humanity and hope in mankind.

DISABILITY SUPPORT
WHY is it that in Australia we tend to instigate programs that have been tried a few years before and that have then gone belly up? The National Disability Insurance Scheme is a prime example. It is costing an arm and a leg at this point in time with no idea just what the actual cost will be.
In the UK they have had a similar scheme In place a few years. The scheme over there appointed three entities to oversee the program. They in turn contracted organisations beneath them to implement the scheme. After a while they brought in payment for services by the hour, regardless of how much time was needed for each Individual.
Now it appears that the time is charged, can you believe it, by the minute. Now those three entities are raking in the money, have become bigger than the government and the ones providing the service are becoming unviable.
The government doesn't know what to do to reign the companies at he top and the whole scheme is in disarray. I hope that our NDIS doesn't go the same way, with bloated bureaucrats stuffing up a system which provides care and support to those who need it with little support from various governments.
Why is it, that when something works and the community is behind it, the powers that be want to stick their oar in? Is it because they want to be seen as caring and compassionate when in effect they are cutting funding in all areas?
