The eight member team – four boys and four girls – will take on two teams from NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.
The Tasmanian players are evenly split with four coming from the North of the state and four from the South.
“They were picked on results from tournaments played during the year and they nominated for a selection day and then they are selected from each part of the state,” team manager Steven Partridge said.
Launceston’s Sam Lockett will captain the state under-19 team and Rodney Lockett is the coach.
“The competition will be fairly fierce and we don’t really have the numbers to keep the quality level high,” Partridge said.
“Whereas other states might have 50 to 60 players to choose from and they are playing at that high level all the time.
“They will have three days of team events and then they will play an individual competition straight after that.
“Each of our players are entered in singles, doubles and mixed in the individual tournament.
“It’s good experience for our players to play against the best from other states.
“And they make friends with other players who they link up with on social media.”
The state under-19 badminton team leaves on Thursday and will be away competing for seven days.
