The win saw the Strikers remain on top of the competition ladder with an eighth-straight victory.
Devonport dominated from the opening whistle amassing five consecutive corners within the first 15 minutes but were unable to convert any of the opportunities into a shot on goal.
The momentum continued the Strikers way creating chances in the first half but it took until the 32nd minute before they finally converted and scored their first goal of the game from a corner conversion.
The ball swung in by Brayden Mann found the head of big Joey Zupo, who directed his header towards the back post. Miles Barnard found himself in the right spot and out-jumped all the other contenders to head home the first goal.
Mann continued to be dangerous seeking scoring opportunities but the Strikers had to settle for a 1-0 lead at half-time from an uneventful first half, contented to be in front but disappointed with the fact that they hadn’t found their usual ability to create quality chances.
Devonport then scored two more goals inside two minutes of the second half. After a foul on the right wing in the 48th minute, Mann swung a low free kick into the box and the Rangers defence let it go past them only for Barnard to once again capitalise as he tapped home from close range for a brace.
Two minutes later he was brought down at the top of the 18-yard box, and Mann stepped up to take the free kick quickly catching the wall and keeper off-guard as the ball curled nicely into the bottom right hand corner for a 3-0 lead to Devonport.
The Strikers’ next goal came in the 69th minute when Mann flicked the ball into the path of a full-speed Brody Denehey who had plenty of time and space down the right wing and calmly approached the box and slotted the ball into the bottom-left corner.
Barnard then brought up his hat-trick with yet another goal from close range in the 88th minute. A corner by Mann was directed to the top of the six-yard box, where Barnard was able to head the ball past an outstretched Luigi Cordova for a final 5-0 scoreline.
Sixth-placed Launceston caused an upset beating fourth-placed Olympia Warriors 1-0 at Mitsubishi Park to claim their first top-four scalp of the season.
City halted their four game losing streak with the only goal coming through Jarrod Linger in the 43rd minute with a majestic shot from the right to the far-post with Pasquale Gioffre well beaten.
In a game where there wasn’t much between the teams, City converted one of their chances while Olympia failed to make the most of their first half dominance.
Kingborough outclassed Clarence 6-1.
