Felicity Foot, from Ben Lomond Snow Sports, said the business had been flat out on Saturday.
“This is absolutely incredible to have this much snow so early in the winter. Normally we start about mid-July but here we are in June and we have a fantastic cover of snow but luckily we are all ready for it,” she said.
“The lifts are ready, we are ready, the buses are ready so the pre-planning really worked out.”
Mrs Foot said being just an hour from Launceston meant the area was much easier to visit.
“We’ve had a lot of tourists today I think because of the football [on Sunday], we’ve had a lot of kids coming up, but a lot of people who live in Launceston just don’t understand what a fantastic little area this is,” she said.
“To think that you could have really good snow, really good conditions and there are people in Launceston who are still saying ‘I’ve never been to Ben Lomond’.”
Predicting how the season is expected to go is not very common said Mrs Foot, because rain could see the snow disappear.
“That’s why we say if you're here don’t muck around and come up, take a sickie or a day off school, it’s an educational experience…the rest of the season we hope will be alright now we’ve got two snow guns and the groomer, which can make snow,” she said.
“We came up here what we thought was two weeks early to make snow but we haven't needed to because it came naturally, but they'll make snow tonight and then tomorrow morning they'll get the groomer out and shift the snow around to where it needs to be.”
She said if more grooming could occur over the summer months the snow field would be fantastic, but restrictions are in place due to the area being a National Park.
“But it’s slowly coming up to a half decent standard,” Mrs Foot said. Two lifts, Bass and Summit operated on Saturday, with two or three expected on Sunday.
