The narrow crossing at Elizabeth River was located on a rural property and Tasmania Police acting inspector Gavin Hallett said the driver was familiar with the area.
As the vehicle entered the water it stalled and was swept 100 metres before it became lodged against a large rock.
Quickly filling with water, the men were forced to climb onto the rear tray of the vehicle.
“Property owners and friends were able to throw a winch cable across to secure the vehicle,” acting inspector Hallett said.
“The males remained there whilst unsuccessful attempts were made to return the vehicle to the river bank,” he said.
Both men, aged 26 and 26, were winched to safety by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and were flown to Campbell Town to be examined by paramedics.
No serious injuries were sustained, both men suffered mild exposure.
“Police again warn motorists to avoid crossing water hazards and flooded areas – caused due to recent heavy rain in many areas statewide,” acting inspector Hallett said.
