Pollies
BRYAN Green and Cassy O’Connor would have to be the two most negative politicians in Tasmania. It does not matter who brings up a subject, if it is not one of their party, even if it would be good for all Tasmanians, they object to it. Tasmania will go further backwards if either of them held the balance of power.

Jobs
LET’S get real. The lack of jobs in Tasmania is a crisis. The job networks and Centrelink are more interested in punishing people than helping them find jobs, that in the main don’t exist.
How about telling the truth and find a solution instead of hiding it under the carpet? Part-time and casual jobs don’t help, with people I know having to exist on 15-20 hours’ work a week, living below the poverty line on less than $300 a week. Thank you to all the governments over the last 20 years for letting it get to this.

Basslink Cable
OPPOSITION leader Bill Shorten has pledged up to $500 million for a second Basslink cable if a business plan stacks up (The Examiner, June 17). Sounds a bit iffy.
We haven’t even been told how and why the existing cable was damaged. Strapped for cash all year, then suddenly, come election time there’s half-a-billion dollars for a project Tasmania should never need.
That’s if Hydro Tasmania managed our water storage properly. I suggest $500 million towards our failing health system would be money better spent.
A. R. Trounson, Deloraine.
