Solahart Northern Tasmania Manion Plumbing salesman Brendan Turriff said the device is designed to supplement on-grid storage.
“Essentially, instead of exporting excess solar power back to the grid for minimal return, this excess can be stored in the battery to use at night or during periods of low solar gain,” he said.
“Conversely, if there is insufficient charge in the battery, you simply import from the grid as required.”
Manion Plumbing owner Damien Pedder said the house in the greater Launceston area will now gain maximum benefit from having solar panels.
“Without the battery at the moment the downside is that any excess generated power gets sent back to the grid for a credit of 5.5 cents, when you draw back that power you’re paying 28 cents for it per kilowatt,” he said.
Mr Pedder said he believes the Tesla Powerwall is the future of battery and baseload power.
