Chief Executive Dale Luttrell said the project started almost 30 years ago
“We’ve finally been able to raise the funds and have the ability to to be able to put the lift in, which allows the building to be filly accessible to our clients,” he said,
“At the same time it allows the building to be used for our fundraising activities, like the Tasmanian Art Award or the Doll and Bear Fair.”
Mr Luttrell said the total project cost $400,000 and more than $200,00 was raised.
“Obviously the campaign is continuing… the full project included the cost of installing the lift and because we’re building into a heritage building it require a lot of extra work,” he said. “In the lift foyer a new archway had to be built and the foyer had some original art works which were lost but the Launceston Art Society are going to replicate them for us.”
Launceston Art Society president Carolyn Riley said artists would paint flowers on the new frieze.
