The junior world championship team named after the national Easter events is represented by three Tasmanians, Zoe and Anna Dowling and Jarrah Day, of Hobart.
More than 40 elite seniors and juniors competed in the National Orienteering League events. A further 100 contested the all-ages Tasmanian middle distance championships.
Rachel Allen, of Hobart, caused an upset by winning the middle distance W20E course by three minutes ahead of junior world team representatives Anna and Zoe Dowling. On Sunday, Zoe was the clear winner after a mishap which had Anna late for her start and Allen mispunched.
Victorian up-and-coming junior Aston Key won both events in the men’s 20E.
Ashley Nankervis, from Launceston’s Esk Valley Club, placed second in the Tasmanian championships in men’s 20E and on Sunday the minor placings were reversed with Jack Neumann ahead of Nankervis in second place.
In the senior fields, the women’s 21E in the Tasmanian championships with a winning margin of 90 seconds to Natasha Key, of Victoria. Sunday’s tough 8.2km course saw Jo Allison, of the ACT, shine with a margin of 10 minutes over Key and Aslinn Prendergast.
In the men’s 21E, Brodie Nankervis was less than a minute behind the winner Simon Uphill, of South Australia.
