Bass Liberal MHA Sarah Courtney announced the festival will receive $30,000 of funding across three years under the Regional Events Start-up Program.
The program was established last year to assist new events by offering three year blocks of funding while they get off the ground.
Steampunk festival promises a fun-filled day, with tea pot racing, a mad hatter tea party, live music, a fortune teller, circus performers and Steampunk artisans, chairwoman Anne Cameron said.
“It is a celebration of George Town’s industrial heritage,” Ms Cameron said.
The Steampunk ball will be headlined by an interstate artist and has already sold a table to interstate visitors.
Seven events have secured funding through the startup program including Cradle Mountain Film Festival, and Effervescene. It is estimated the events will inject $10 million into regional economies across the state.
