Pires scored on River To War, Nunivak, Lord Da Vinci and Box Of Frogs for trainer Scott Brunton and Caffeine Hit for Brunton’s partner Tegan Keys.
He is now five ahead of Brendon McCoull as he chases his second successive Tasmanian jockeys’ premiership.
Brunton’s quartet of winners took him to a commanding 11-win lead over Adam Trinder on the trainers’ premiership.
Pires and Brunton have totally dominated racing in Hobart since the track got wet.
The jockey continually beats his rivals to the best going on the outside rail in the home straight, helped by the fact that Brunton’s horses are both fast enough and fit enough to make early runs and sustain them.
River To War was having her first start for Brunton when she landed a substantial plunge in the Sharee Marshall Maiden.
The filly was previously in the Brendan McShane stable.
Pires pushed her hard early from barrier 2 to get to the outside fence and the best going.
She was joined by Gold Librettist at the top of the home straight and they settled down to fight out the finish after the winner’s stablemate Berroco surprisingly went to the inside rail.
River To War ($5 into $3.10) scored by a neck from Gold Librettist ($13) with Vivre Star ($3.80) a distant third ahead of Berroco ($2.00 out to $3.90).
The winner was bred by the late Dudley Clark from his Rubiton mare Rubicor.
