Assistant Principal at Exeter Primary Helen Peart said the Learning in Families Together program aims to work with families to support children in their skills development.

“It’s about understanding how children and learning and ways parents can support their children at home,” she said.

The LIFT program allows parents to give teachers feedback on specific areas they’re children can improve on.

Ms Peart said the program currently supported kindergarten to grade two pupils, but it will likely be extended in the future. 

The program was launched at Tresca on Thursday, with parents participating in a questionnaire.

Pupils enjoyed a special reading by Launceston author Christina Booth, sharing her new book Too Many Sheep.

Mother of three Amanda McEvoy said she hoped the program would make parents feel confident about approaching the school with feedback.

“Each individual case is going to be talking to a different teacher and a different year group and knowing that the school across the board is open to listening to my concerns at that time,” she said. 

Ms Booth said it was important to empower parents how to reach their children, and the new program would assist in this.
