The Western Force lock has been included in the Wallabies training camp that starts on Monday ahead of a three-Test series against England.
The initial squad will be trimmed at the end of this week’s camp on the Gold Coast from 39 to 30 players.
Coleman’s selection would all but ensure the 24-year-old is the first-ever Tasmanian to play Test rugby for Australia in 117 years.
Coleman grew up in Hobart, but at 18 years of age was earmarked by the ACT Brumbies academy.
The 204cm tight forward would later move to Sydney to play club rugby for Shute Shield side Parramatta.
He made his Super Rugby debut in 2013 in a one-off appearance for NSW before relocating to Perth in a new deal with the Western Force.
Coleman played his 38th Super Rugby match in his career against the Melbourne Rebels on Saturday.
