Opposition leader Bryan Green on Saturday said the Co-ordinator General’s office, based in Launceston, spent $7 million in two years and thats its abolishment would save up to $30 million over ten years.
He said the party would still ensure there was State Growth Department presence in Northern Tasmania if the role was to go.
The position was created to attract investment into Tasmania, facilitate major projects, and act as a conduit between developers and government departments.
Bass Liberal MHA Michael Ferguson said the cost of the Co-ordinator General office paled in comparison to economic benefits it brought to the state.
