The Red Shield Appeal helps homeless people across Australia, and will support Tasmanians sleeping rough across the state.
Salvation Army Kings Meadows corps officer Jacky Laing said the money raised would provide assistance to homeless individuals throughout the year.
“We’ve got volunteers everywhere from the footy, to the shopping centres to the local places where people are gathering,” she said.
She said 100,000 volunteers across Australia are gathering funds.
“There will be one million Australians who will come to us for support in one way or another over the next 12 months.”
Salvation Army volunteer Barry Hingston said he’d been volunteering for 50 years across Tasmania.
The Red Shield Appeal Doorknock Weekend will take place from May 28-29.
