Queechy’s team of five STEM teachers were named as winners of the inaugural award for secondary STEM teaching.
Teacher Murat Djakic said a big part of the success of the program was the willingness of his students to learn.
“We wouldn’t have got the award if it wasn’t for the students,” he said.
“The teachers have actually got to have someone to work with, and these students are willing enough to be involved.”
Mr Djakic said Queechy provided students with a diverse range of STEM activities, including competitions and individual projects.

He said STEM subjects taught students to investigate, plan, build and research.
“It’s more of getting students educated in how to learn, rather than actually teaching them a set task which takes them down a set line,” he said.
“They actually learn to learn so they can involve themselves in their own learning activities then later on, and be flexible.”
