Liberal Lyons MHR Eric Hutchinson announced the funding promise to Claxton and Meander Valley Suns president Leigh Watts at the ground on Saturday, saying the upgrade would allow for the club’s growth to continue.
Claxton said the upgrade was much-anticipated.
“Hopefully they get started on it soon, it'll be fantastic for us," Claxton said.
“The plan is to make change rooms bigger on either end and the visitors’ change rooms at the moment would be converted into the umpires’ change room.
“It'd be fantastic to have it built over the summer because it's less of an impact for us with cricket than it is with football so it'd be great to start in September or October.”
Claxton said an extension to the clubrooms would present some exciting opportunities for the community.
“Our rooms at the moment are not big enough to hold our functions so the cricket club have all their dinners and functions in town at the moment.
“Anything like this for a small town, it won't just be for football and cricket, it's for anyone who wants to hire it for weddings and all of those sorts of things, it can be a community function area.”
Labor Lyons candidate Brian Mitchell said Labor was also considering the project.
“I have met with the Meander Valley Council and the local Westbury community about upgrading the clubrooms at the Westbury Recreation Ground," Mr Mitchell said.
“I have had constructive discussions about the first stage of the project.
“I think it is a worthwhile project and I have been in discussions with my federal Labor colleagues."
