The Cavaliers product is the first Tasmanian to be selected in a national under-20 or under-21 since Rachael Knight in 2006.
Rainbow, who captained the state at this year’s under-21 tournament, will join the 24-player squad at Netball Australia’s Centre of Excellence in Canberra for a training camp before the matches get underway.
The tournament will feature an under-20 side from New Zealand and England, an Aotearora Maori team and a combined Australian state institute and academies outfit.
The squad has been selected with a view towards next year’s netball world youth cup in Botswana, Africa.
“While a number of our World Youth Cup team will come from this group, we’re keeping a wider eye on athletes outside this group as well,” Australian coach Tania Obst said.
Rainbow is now based in Melbourne.
