A 48 year old man has died as a result of his injuries after a firearms incident involving police in Cooee last night.
Police were called to the property at Stitz Street, Cooee, at 7.30pm in response to a call about an armed man.
Seven police officers were involved in the initial police response.
Western District Commander Tim Dooley said initial investigations indicate the man ignored repeated warnings to disarm, and confronted one officer, who discharged his firearm.
The man received abdomen and leg wounds and was taken to North West Regional Hospital where he underwent surgery.
Commander Dooley said sadly the man died at 3.50am, and our thoughts are with his loved ones.
UPDATE:
A man received firearm wounds in the abdomen and leg following an incident in Cooee on Tuesday night, according to Tasmania Police.
Police attended a home in Cooee around 7:30pm, in response to a call about an armed man.
“Initial investigations indicated the man confronted one of the officers, who discharged his weapon,” commander Tim Dooley said.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment.
Professional Standards is investigating the incident.
