Team member Tanya Lanham said the event will be held over three days, with more than 45 teams from across the country and from New Zealand.
“It is a national roller derby competition held in Adelaide every two years over the June long weekend, and it is the biggest roller debry competition in the world, with the most teams competing at one time,” she said. “We are playing the Darwin Roller Girls and we're playing East Victoria, and then out of that it goes to quarter finals, semi-finals and finals based on whoever wins in the others.”
Ms Lanham said the league is coached by Paul Campbell, who also coaches the world number one Victorian Roller Derby League.
”He plays for the men’s Australian team, having him is a really big advantage for our league because we pick up on a lot of the techniques and things like that that the best teams in the world are doing,” she said.
The Devil State Derby League will send 15 skaters to the competition, aged from 21 into their late 40’s.
“We’ve got every kind of body size and shape that you can imagine, and I think a really positive thing about the sport is that it's very inclusive,” Ms Lanham said.
