Players have started to battle it out for Tasmanian spots months ahead of the 2016 Australian junior squash championships in Sydney.
Chairman of state junior squash, Mark Hudson, reported that 24 of the best juniors in the state attended on Sunday in Launceston. “That was all part of the training process that we put them through to help select the team, train them up and form a state squad,” he said.
Hudson said the standard out of Launceston had lifted. “We are promoting the game a bit more by introducing these sessions in Launceston,” he added. Another session will be held in the city in July.
Launceston’s Emma Clyde has formed a top rivalry with Devonport’s Grace Pattison, ranked the number-one Australian 16-year-old. Hudson has tipped Tasmania will form a strong squad when it picks the best pair in different age groups. “We’re punching above our weight,” he said.
