AMU coach Ray Burgess praised his side for turning around an early 17-3 deficit only to score the next 49 points despite the Vikings repeating past mistakes.
“We don’t seem to turn on until about 10 minutes into the half – we allow teams to get a bit of a jump on us,” Burgess said.
“We try some mad rushing that gets us into more trouble, but once we settle down and stick to the game plan, really that’s the difference.”
The hosts hit back with two tries before half-time to narrow the score to 17-15 before Burgess had some words of advice at the break.
“I said for the first 10 minutes these guys will be strong and come back, and hit you really hard,” he said.
“If you could weather the first 10 minutes of the second half, we’ll run all over them and to tell you the truth that is exactly what happened.”
LAUNCESTON suffered a morale-sapping 42-12 loss to Eastern Suburbs in the double header between the co-tenants at Royal Park.
The Bees crossed the line first and defended well in the latter stages, but coach Nic Sotiriou felt his side went missing for long periods.
“I feel because last week we had the bye, we just lost momentum,” Sotiriou said.
“We’re probably back where we were a couple of weeks ago. We don’t have the experience to just bounce back.”
