Graham Reid and the Kookaburras coaching staff have selected a squad of 27 athletes to take part in three matches at Narrogin and Perth against Great Britain from May 21-24 which will be the last on home turf before the Rio Olympics.
The series will see the return of Launceston’s Tim Deavin and Hobart duo Joshua Beltz and Jeremy Edwards to national colours while Hobart’s Eddie Ockenden retains his place fresh from helping the team to victory at the Sultan Azlan Shah tournament in Malaysia.
Reid said he had chosen a larger squad than usual to take part in the series.
“This is really to give everyone the chance to show their worth, and for discovery ahead of both the Champions Trophy and the Olympic Games selection,” he said.
Great Britain, currently ranked fourth in the world, have chosen a squad of 22 to take part in the series, and will begin their preparations by training at the Perth Hockey Stadium on Saturday.
After the GB series the Australians will prepare for the Champions Trophy to be played in London from June 10-17 and also featuring Germany, India, Belgium, Korea and the host nation.
Hockey Australia is due to name its Olympic squad on July 13.
