The Cirque 2 Sea expedition was launched on Monday and will see students from across Australia invited on a virtual journey down the Derwent River.
The adventure is part of the Bookend Trust and will see Cirque 2 Sea leader Andrew Hughes travel from the Lake St Clair National Park to the Southern Ocean along the river.
Along the way, he will write about, photograph and video his expedition.
Mr Hughes will then send daily information back to a learning portal to show students how interesting a career in science can be.
“We want to get students interested in the science of the river, how rivers work and who depends on them in a really adventurous way,” he said.
“The idea is that this sets the kids up to be enquiring, methodical, interested students.”
The Cirque 2 Sea expedition will begin on August 1.
