Governance and planning coordinator Leanne Purchase has recommended the council hold the meeting at 7pm on June 7 at the Albert Hall, according to Monday’s council agenda.
Aldermen have been recommended to record the matter of the petition as; calling on the council to hold a public meeting on the decision to transfer the Willis Street Car Park and Old Velodrome, calling on council to rescind the transfer passed at the meeting of November 9, 2015, and calling for the land to be placed for sale on the open market with a reserve auction price of $5 million.
Ms Purchase wrote that the petition contained 1130 signatures of electors in the Launceston municipal area.
She recommended the council endorse Don Wing as the chair of the meeting, as proposed by the petitioner, and that any submissions received by the general manager be summarised and made available to meeting attendees.
According to the report in Monday’s council agenda, the five requests put to council to determine the structure of the meeting were agreed to, but the report stated motions from the floor would only be accepted provided they related to the subject matter.
The council will also consider a recommendation to approve six community grant applications at Monday’s meeting.
Metal Mind Robotics, Stompin, the Cancer Patients Foundation, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and Tasdance have been recommended to receive their requested grant amounts in full.
An application from the Tasmanian Acquired Brain Injury Service has been recommended to receive $1078, rather than the requested amount of $1437.
The service received a score of 70 per cent for their application.
