It’s a big call, but an understandable one after listening to Camp Cope’s debut self-titled album.
Melbourne songstress Georgia Maq originally formed the trio (recruiting friends Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich and Sarah Thompson) to beef up her solo stuff last year.
The result is an eight-track release that debuted at number 36 on the ARIA charts.
Maq’s captivating vocals are bolstered by drums and bass; her Melbourne drawl weaves throughout takes of working life and youth and conspiracy theories.
There are no standouts here, because each track is as strong as the next – from the instant hook of intro track Done to the ode of Lost (Season One) to closing ballad Song for Charlie.
A total win for original Australian music.
