However, all the butterflies were gone as soon as the students met and bonded with one and other.
Jingshan student Yue Fuqing said: “As I walked off the plane, I felt a sense of being free as well as excitement.”
Beijing is so built up and a populated place so the air quality is undesirable and skyscrapers tower high above you,.
The students were surprised and amazed at all the lush green open land.
Lots of students remarked on how clean they thought Launceston was compared to Beijing and how many trees there were in Launceston.
“I didn’t really know much about Tasmania before I came, except my mum told me that the apples are very tasty,” Yang Yinuo said.
Scotch Oakburn College student Bethany Hirst is hosting Yang Yinuo.
Bethany said she is enjoying learning all about where Yang Yinuo has come from and her culture.
The pair have planned to take a trip to the Christmas Hill Raspberry Farm, swimming at the Aquatic Centre and hanging out on the farm.
While staying here in Launceston, a number of the Jingshan students said that they have tried a number of different Australian foods including vegemite and lamingtons.
This type of food is very different to what they eat in China.
“I usually have noodles for breakfast,” Yue Fuqing said.
Learning about each other’s culture has really shed light on students’ points of views about the two different types of lifestyles.
Although there are lots of differences between our culture and the Chinese, pupils have discovered some similarities too.
There is a strong feeling of community in both schools and enthusiasm to learn about the other people’s language and where they come from.
These similarities have bought our two schools together to create a long lasting friendship with each other.
