Hometown DJ AKOUO will take over Launceston’s Sawtooth ARI Gallery on Saturday. After releasing his new single Giving Into You earlier this year, this weekend Akouo is set to show off some more of his fresh, original tracks. He will be joined by some special guests. This is a strictly over-18s event, and doors open at 8pm. Tickets are still available for $12 online at a-k-o-u-o.com. A limited number will also be available on the door.
All-gal showcase WHEN SHE BELIEVES is on at The Royal Oak in Launceston on Friday night. This line-up stars Lonnie chicks Bianca Jagoe, Dani Quilliam, and Mary Shannon, plus Hobart’s Straddlepuss. Entry is by gold coin donation, doors open at 9pm.
On Saturday night, BEN STEWART of Slowly, Slowly fame hits Launceston for his Lone Wolf tour. Stewart will be joined by Hobart-turned-Melbourne muso Linc le Fevre, and new-ish Launceston band The Sleepyheads. You can catch the aforementioned line-up at Club 54 from 8pm – entry is $10. If you’re down south, the Lone Wolf tour will also be playing with le Fevre at the Brisbane Hotel in Hobart on Friday night. If you’re a day walker, you can see an acoustic solo session from the duo at Tommy Gun Records on Elizabeth Street at 3pm.
Australian audiences are currently being treated to their first sights and sounds of the new album from RUFUS. This weekend, the trio bring the the Bloom tour to Hobart, playing at the Odeon Theatre on Saturday night for a licensed all-ages event. They’ll be supported by Bob Moses, and Tora.
There are plenty of rad shows coming to Tassie for the rest of the month, including a joint tour from PINCH HITTER (Sydney) and MERIDIAN (US). On May 12 and 13, they’ll be playing in Hobart and Launceston respectively. For the Tassie leg, they’ll be joined by an uplugged version of LUCA BRASI. You can see the gig at the Brisbane Hotel on May 12, and at the Gunners Arms on May 13.
