His ten years of consecutive service on the club’s board has seen him receive a well-deserved life membership award at the Northern Bombers.

During that time Dunphy has served in a number of roles including senior vice-president, treasurer, public officer, recruitment committee member, special events manager and inaugural board member to the Tasmanian State League.

He has also been a sponsor of the club for over 20 years.

“ I was ecstatic to receive the life membership award – you never expect that to happen and you don’t join a committee or club to become a life member,” Dunphy said.

“It is just something they reward you with for the years of service and the work you have done.” 

Dunphy said his parents would go to watch St Pats play at Invermay Park in the 1950s and he would jump the fence to York Park and watch North Launceston play.

“I have during the period since seen many highs and lows but the highlight for me was seeing the Bombers beat Glenorchy at Bellerive Oval to win the 2015 premiership.

“Being the undisputed underdogs and getting up to win was a real experience.”

Dunphy said North Launceston had been down as a club for a long time and he was keen to see, in his life-time, the highs happen again.

“I thought I could give them a hand and hopefully make that happen and luckily enough I have seen it over the last two years.

“We have a good coach and on the playing side I think we are well-placed for more success in the future.”
