I can’t see why people in the know would continue to put good money after bad. Raking has only shifted the problem from point A to point B.

It’s now clogging up our river downstream and as I see from my Riverside home at low tide, boats will not have a channel to navigate.

It won’t be long before the West Tamar Highway will be flooded when we get huge rainfalls because to walk to Tamar Island you now get wet feet because of the amount of silt piling up along the river pushing the tide level much higher.

Until we allow the free flowing of water down our Gorge there is no sense raking the river.

Hydro Tasmania needs to wake up to the fact they have ruined our river. The least they can do is let the river flow freely then raking may be worthwhile.

As for pumping raw sewage into our river, let’s get serious and build treatment plants while we can afford them and before it’s too late to save our river. We must look and smell like a Third World country to visitors at low tide.

SEVENTY million dollars in taxpayers’ money is going to be used by the federal government to pay workers of MP Clive Palmer’s failed nickel company in Queensland.

Mr Palmer will then have to pay the $70 million back to the government or us the taxpayers of Australia. That’s about as likely as Mr Palmer’s dinosaurs at his failed resort coming to life.

THE cost of the 12 new submarines is high enough but add to that the costs of maintaining and upgrading the six Collins-class submarines for the next (minimum) 15 years must be included. Why, when Japan has a proven product is it necessary to spend money on design of a new vessel and increase the delivery dates?
