The Bureau of Meteorology on Monday issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds for most of the state, including the central North, North East, Midlands, East Coast, and North West Coast.
Damaging northwesterly winds at 60km/h with peak gusts of 110km/h are predicted to hit Tasmania on Monday night and into Tuesday morning.
The bureau has attributed the winds to an approaching cold front.
The state is also set to be hit with heavy downpours throughout Tuesday.
The bureau has also released a flood watch for Northern river basins.
The SES and Tasmania Police have advised that people should:
- Supervise children closely
- Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment
- Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings
- Manage pets and livestock
- Be prepared in case of power outages
- Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving
- Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice
